About Divided Sky Vineyard

Divided Sky Vineyard is a small, family-run estate winery on the west side of Keuka Lake, just north of Hammondsport, New York. It was founded in 2016 when Megan Granata and Alek Ajder, a sommelier turned winemaker, relocated from Connecticut and purchased a 15-acre property overlooking the lake. They built their home there in 2017, planted their first vines in 2018, and today grow Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Blaufrankisch, and Saperavi, supplementing their estate fruit with grapes sourced from select Keuka and Seneca Lake growers. The family home doubles as the tasting room, which opened to the public in the spring of 2023.

The winery focuses on dry, small-batch wines made with a light, minimal-intervention touch. Alek hand-harvests the grapes and crafts the wines unfined and unfiltered, drawing on Old World traditions from Champagne and Burgundy. The lineup sits firmly at the dry end of the spectrum and includes a bone-dry Estate Riesling, a structured Dry Rose, a silky Cabernet Franc, a peppery Blaufrankisch, and the Barn Door Red blend.

Tastings are intimate and personal, frequently led by Alek himself, and are best arranged ahead by phone or email. Guests sample the estate's dry wines from a patio with sweeping 180-degree views of Keuka Lake, the Bluff to the north, and Hammondsport to the south. The name comes from a storm the owners once watched cross the property, with dark rain clouds to the north, a rainbow ahead, and bright blue sky to the south, a divided sky.
