About Osmote

Osmote is a small, family-run winery on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake in Burdett, New York, dedicated to low-impact, naturally fermented wines built around freshness, texture, and restraint. Founded in 2014 by winemaker Ben Riccardi — a Finger Lakes native whose résumé includes Williams Selyem in California, Craggy Range in New Zealand, and City Winery in Manhattan — the label produces fewer than 24,000 bottles a year from a mix of classic vinifera and modern disease-resistant hybrid grapes.

The home base is a 31-acre farm roughly 950 feet above the lake, where the Riccardis practice regenerative viticulture alongside a small orchard, gardens, and pasture-raised pigs. The first estate vines went in the ground in 2024, including blocks of Aromella and Marquette. Osmote's bright, light-bodied, high-acid wines — among them Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, De Chaunac, and a flagship pét-nat — have earned a following on Michelin-starred wine lists, yet the house philosophy keeps them approachable enough for a picnic or a weeknight dinner.

Tastings are held outdoors at the farm's timber-framed pavilion, with a slate-stone patio and panoramic views of Seneca Lake and the surrounding pastures (and the resident pigs). Flights run on the hour and cost $20 for four two-ounce pours; the farm also offers on-site Airbnb lodging just a short walk from the tasting room.
