About Standing Stone Vineyards

Standing Stone is a historic winery nestled on the southeast side of Seneca Lake in New York's Finger Lakes region, where sun and slope aspects greatly impact grape growing. The vineyards were first planted in 1972 with four acres of Riesling by renowned winemakers Charles Fournier and Guy Devaux of the Gold Seal Vineyards. In 2017, Fred and Maressa Merwarth and Oskar Bynke of Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard purchased Standing Stone from the Macinski family and began charting a new course with innovation in the winery and biodynamic farming in the vineyards while embracing the site's historic past.

Since 2018, Standing Stone has eliminated synthetic inputs and herbicides in its fields, planted beneficial cover crops, and steadily moved toward bio-intensive farming to promote a diverse ecosystem. The estate is especially notable for being home to the largest planting of Saperavi (a bold Georgian red grape) outside of the Republic of Georgia, showcased through their Teinturier Series.

From a cozy tasting room overlooking historic vineyards and expansive views of Seneca Lake, Standing Stone offers a range of wines — including old vine Rieslings and Chardonnays, sparkling Brut Rosé of Saperavi, skin-contact whites, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon — available by the glass, bottle, or in mix-and-match flights on their heated deck or indoor seating areas.
