About Stever Hill Vineyards
Stever Hill Vineyards is a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated farm winery in Branchport, New York, set in the heart of Keuka Lake wine country. The owning family — the Tones brothers, Harold, Don, and Jim — have grown grapes in the Finger Lakes for five generations at Clearview Farms, and today the tasting room and winemaking operation are run by Liz and Jay Sprague, both graduates of Cal Poly's Wine & Viticulture program, with Mike and Jon serving as vineyard managers.
The centerpiece of the property is the hilltop Crooked Barn Tasting Room, a renovated barn dating to roughly the 1850s. Original hand-hewn beams and antique hardware are paired with newer construction milled from oak, hemlock, and walnut harvested on site, giving the space the feel of a casual rustic lodge. A 25-foot tasting bar anchors the interior, while a wraparound deck outside opens onto roughly 180-degree hillside views across mature woods and acres of vineyard. Picnic tables, a gazebo, and a seasonal firepit round out the outdoor space.
The winery produces about 2,000 cases a year across roughly 20 to 30 distinct dry, semi-dry, and sweet wines drawn from vinifera, hybrid, and native varieties grown on the family's land. Beyond wine tastings, visitors can order wine and cheese or wine and chocolate pairings, wine slushies, craft cocktails, guest beers from Grist Iron Brewing, and hard cider from 1911 Established. Live music and visiting food trucks are a regular feature during the warmer months.
