About Torrey Ridge Winery

Torrey Ridge Winery sits on State Route 14 about halfway up the west shore of Seneca Lake, twenty minutes from either Geneva or Watkins Glen, with Prejean and Miles as its nearest winery neighbors. The surrounding land is Mennonite and Amish farm country, and the winery is the Seneca Lake home of CK Cellars, a family company that also runs Earle Estates Meadery (going since 1993) and WortHog Cidery in the same building, plus Rooster Hill Vineyards on Keuka Lake. In 2017 the New York State Wine & Grape Foundation named the operation Winery of the Year at the New York Wine & Food Classic.

The house line is "a good wine is a wine you like," and the list is built accordingly, running from dry Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet to the sweeter side of the Finger Lakes: native Niagara and Diamond, a Seyval and the tongue-in-cheek Redneck Family of Wines. Lucky's B, a Niagara-Catawba blend, has taken a Double Gold at the Tasters Guild, and on Vivino the semi-sweet Diamond and Niagara and the Lucky White blend draw the highest marks. Meads, fruit wines and hard ciders from the sister brands are poured alongside.

Tastings happen in a sun-filled second-floor room whose balcony looks across the lake; bring a picnic lunch and eat it there or on the lawn, where games and music fill the grounds in season. Groups of eight or more should reserve ahead, and the gift shop stocks sauces from area chefs and work by local artists. It is an easygoing stop rather than a serious sit-down tasting, suited to mixed groups who want sweet and dry poured side by side.
